HISTORICAL OUTLINE
Originally a swamp, lake Fusaro, became popular in the 18th century, when it was rediscovered as a hunting and fishing reserve. To further improve the value of the area, King Ferdinando IV, of the BorboneÕ s dynasty engaged in 1782 the architect Carlo Vanvitelli (1739/1821); whose father Luigi had designed Caserta Royal Palace. Carlo Vanvitelli built a splendid royal villa ÒCasinaÓ. The building is the core of a vast system of buildings and gardens surrounding the lake. The villa was originally reachable only by boat, and it is now connected to the lakeÕs edge by a wooden bridge, some 50 meters long.
